I bought the inexpensive (cough:cheap:cough) bluetooth ELM327 OBDII from amazon for $25. It works OK, but:
a) you have to unplug it because it uses power even when vehicle is off;
b) from what I hear, it is not as good as the higher end units so I will probably spring for the $89 unit (like kiwi) and offload this unit to my 'friend'
c) The better units, unfortunately, ofttimes come with a cable so the unit can be tucked away from the driver knee area but in the HIHY it is not easy to route that cable to some other location.

Great! So what kind app did you use and what information did you get?
Any possible tweaks?

It reads whatever OBDII info the vehicle provides and displays it graphically or can log it, even to a website.
