I have an '08 Highlander that has almost 30,000 miles and is almost out of warranty. Is there anything in particular I should have checked at the 30,000 mile service other than the normal items? I'm wanting to make sure that I don't miss anything that has been problematic for others before it is out of warranty and it's on my dime. Thanks!

Interesting question that I wouldn't mind knowing either. I am at about 56000km, with 4000km left on my Warranty. Things that I am looking at getting addressed include:
1. Fixing a rust spot and repainting of the rear hatch (I have already had it in and I was told that it would be covered under warranty, although I am not too thrilled about having my (fairly) new vehicle painted. My concerns include color matching, clearcoat peeling, etc.
2. Having my front windshield wipers looked at. They are loud, and there appears to be a delay each time the wiper changes directions, so either there is an issue with the motor, or it may be stripped where the wiper connects.
Also, I have a concern regarding my rear hatch. Sometimes when I go to close it, it tries to close, goes almost all the way to the closed position, and then reopens as if there was something preventing it from closing, but nothing is there. This happens very rarely, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, but my concern is at 61000km, my door motor will suddenly be fried. Just one of those annoying intermittent issues.

I would say based on what fellow owners here have reported, I'd give your interior a good inspection with your Mark One eyeball to see if things like the door armrest or center console are showing any signs of cracking, wear, looseness, etc. Also, if there's any rattles and squeaks you've been living with have them fix those too. Food for thought.

Well most of the things have been said. But I do have a few things I wish I could fix (I am way past my warranty at 65k miles and I'm to lazy/cheap to fix the things without warranty )
-Tailgate alignment...My whole tailgate is off of alignment from the day I got it (got it used at around 40k so no warranty). It wouldn't close with the power door. Local dealer fixed it by tilting the metal hook at the bottom a little to the side. Its no longer straight but it shuts correctly (still off alignment a little though)
-Tailgate glass window opening pistons... the metal bracket they hook on to on mine has come loose. I tried tightening the screw but it didn't help. The bracket can turn 270 degrees in either direction and sometimes prevents the window from shutting flush. It still shuts enough to seal, but sticks up on the bad side higher than the other. Idk if its a glue problem but its something to look for
-Door armrests... Like Traildust said, have those checked. They are SUPER easy to put too much weight on them and have them split right down the middle. All of mine are snapped except for my driver door.
-Aux in engine noise.... There was actually a TSB out for this on 08's. When you hook a ipod (or other electronic) into the aux in and plug that electronic into the 12v source, it will transmit a high frequency sound through the speakers basically alternator whine. I fixed this by using something like a ground loop isolator, the TSB is covered under the 36k warranty and they basically do the same thing I did except behind the dash.
Besides those I have zero things I would have fixed by the warranty.

I have a 2008 Highlander Sport AWD, i bought it 2 years, 10 months ago; but I have 36k miles. Was the warrantee 30,000 miles or 3 years? (I know I should know this).
Issues I have:
Lose armrest on driver's side door
Driver's side power window slides out of the groove sometimes.
Would either of those be covered? I did not buy any additional warrantee.

My warranty is based on 3 years or 60000km (36000miles in the US, I believe), whichever comes first.
The items that you mention should be covered under warranty, assuming you are slightly under 36000 miles, and not slightly over.
