Can anyone confirm if the TPMS on the spare tire is also being "read" ? With a cold front moving in yesterday morning, I found the TPMS light on when starting up my '08 HL. I checked the tires which were all about 35lbs, and the spare was 25lbs. I topped up the spare and used the reset button under the dash, but the TPMS light will not go away. Is it possible a sensor could go bad, and possibly cause the TPMS light to stay on ? Maybe just a coinsidence with the cold air that just moved in ?
Yes, it's part of the system. Even if the spare is the only tire low on pressure, the TPMS light will show up. Also, the sensors can go bad, but before replacing the sensor I would double check that all tires have the correct pressure, and then repeat the reset procedure. it takes a few minutes after resetting for the light to go off, if I remember correctly.
Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch for at least 3 seconds.
The tire pressure warning light will flash 3 times to indicate that initialization has started.
Wait a few minutes and turn the engine switch to OFF
Some say the warning light will go out after you start and stop the engine several times when the tire pressure is correct

Thanks Dave .... went back to the tire shop and they reprogrammed the sensor id's. Everything seems to be ok. Tire shop did it for free. Local Toyota shop wanted $70.
Appreciate the reply Summerwind, I did try the "reset" button several times as per the manual, but it turned out to be the sensor id's. The tire shop programmed them in again, and the light disappeared shortly after. I made sure all the tires, including the spare were set at the same psi.

The frustrating part is the Limited Hybrid displays the tire pressure for each wheel on the multifunction display. You would think that Toyota would have used the same system on all of the HL's.
