Question Tire calibration

I have an 08 highlander sport fwd and just got new tires $$. I noticed a 'new tire caliberation' option in the setup menu of the navigation. My question is, what does it exactly do and do I need to drive it or remain stationary for this to work?

I've googled this a came up with nothing.

Thanks!

Its probably there during satellite outages, like driving in a tunnel. You don't want to get lost under a bridge or in a tunnel?

Yes, as tires wear, the tire diameter changes. If there is an algorithm monitoring mileage, and computing tire diameter changes as the tire wears, you might be off by a few millimeters when driving through that tunnel.

So, reset it.

But, don't worry. Your tire wear doesn't cause the GPS satellites to change orbit just for you. But to be safe, reset it at night and watch the sky. If you see a bunch of satellite rocket thrusters firing, its because you and only you, calibrated the planet.
