Video input to the multifunction display.

I'm looking for a way to get video into the MFD. I have a 2009 limited with nav. My backup/reverse camera comes through the nav. I'm trying to have a switchable video input on the MFD for another video based menu. (MP3) I don't have the wires on the connector for the camera.

As I understand it, pin 2 puts it in video mode, and pin 12 and 4 are the camera.

My question is: what is the pin 2 trigger? +12v or GND. Are the MFDs the same between Nav and non Nav HLs? This website makes it look like the same part number. http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/t...910-48040.html

Thanks for any info,

Chad

If.. you get something that works Chad let us know. I have been toying with adding a front facing camera that would come on at the push of a button. Better to monitor those close fit parking spots and high curbs.

Well, I got it working on the nav screen. I need to look at the pinouts on the back of the NAV, but basically I split the camera input from the back up camera with a relay, and send 12v to another pin to trick it into reverse mode. That 12v did require a diode to stop 12v going back into the rest of the car. When I first set it up without the diode, the reverse indicator on the instrument panel lit up, and I'm not really sure what else was effected so I added the diode. Also, since it thinks it's in reverse, you always get the "Check your surroundings" message on the bottom. Other than that, it seems to work pretty good. I never really figured out the MFD pinouts. I looked up how much it cost and decided not to go to deep.

Thanks Chad - do you think you can create a sticky with step by step guide with pictures? that would help the entire community a lot

I would like do the same mod, but I do not know how to get to back of the nav without ruining the car... what tools for example to be used?
