Auto on/off lights + turning off engine

i have a 2010 base model with auto on/off lights. whenever i turn off the engine at night (or in covered areas) the lights remain on but does not turn off until i lock the car and press it twice. is there any mod that considers a timer for the lights to shut off for like 30 secs after turning off the engine?

There should be a delay. Have you sat there for like a 1 min and see if it turns off on its own? Mine does from the factory, and you can turn them off with 2 locks just like yours.

You can modify the length/on-off of the delay at the dealer.

See the Common Problems & Solutions sticky for a link to more info about the dealer mod that sweeney referred to.

At my last oil change, I had the dealer set it to zero. Now the lights turn off when I open the door. Much better

i sat there for 10 minutes and it does not turn off. there's no way to set it DIY? i might just have to bring it to the dealer and ask them to set it to zero too.

Wow, is it really 10 minutes? Or is time moving really slow since you're just watching your lights?

I think my lights stay on for about a minute or so...

Edit: Sorry, my reading comprehension is way off this morning. I thought it factory set at a minute???

i was unloading some grocery and took me like 10 minutes to do it and the light never turned off until i press the lock on the remote twice.

that's what i thought too, i guess i would have to bring it back to the dealer then.

I know on mine they stay on for 30 seconds after I close the last door and lock the rig once.
But if I am in the hatchback unloading stuff it waits until 30 seconds after I close the rear first.
If yours is taking that long with the doors looked then yeah you need to take it back to the dealer and have the delay changed.
It almost sounds like your delay is disabled.

Its part of the computer settings in the car. there is no way to change it unless you go to the dealer. They have to use a special tool/computer that allows them to access the car ECU settings. That is strange yours came with no off feature preset. While your there I would look over the other posible modifications you can do while they got the computer set up (like DRL's, seatbelt chime etc...) to see if you want any of those changed.

All doors and the hatch must be shut before the timer starts. Once they are shut the default time is either 30 or 60 seconds. You don't have to lock the doors, just shut them. If you were unloading groceries, then I assume the doors were not shut.

Yes, the dealership uses their scan tool, called Techstream, to change the settings for the lights (and a hundred other things, too). If they try to charge you, don't let them, plenty of dealers (including the one I work at) will do it the first time for free.

^That's probably your issue. If I leave one of my doors open the lights will stay on regardless of how much time goes by.

+1 My dealership never charges for this sort of thing, they emphasize customer service. Heck, they didn't even charge me when I knocked the rocker panel off in the desert. Labor, new clips, no charge.
