2008 Highlander V6 - your advice needed.

My Daughter and Son in law picked up a sweet 2008 Highlander V6 with only 17K on it just yesterday. I haven't seen it yet but they are coming in to town tomorrow. I've picked these up for the dealers I buy for but never really looked them over or owned one.

I've been reading threads here but I don't see any alarming trends. Anything come to mind that I should be looking for on this one?

They do maintain their vehicles really well. Any input is really appreciated.

No showstoppers I can think of. Only thing with the Highlander are some of the smaller, irritating kind of issues like the interior rattles thing or the transmission lag that occurs sometimes when coasting and then accelerating. I've had mine almost four years now and I still love the dang thing!

They traded in their Caliber that they bought in Germany. I think this is a real upgrade!

The dealership called about a month ago and tried to coax me into trading mine in on a new one. I thought, Why would I do that? This one still runs and looks like new (at 102,000 miles). I'm keeping it for another 100K at least!

+1 for the rattles and squeaks... other than that I love it.

Had an '02 HL Limited with over 120,000 trouble free miles (just tires/brakes, nothing more). It was my 'everything' vehicle - commuting 50 miles/day, vacation trips, etc. so it was not 'babied' by any means. Got the 'bug' to buy a new car and went with a Subaru OB, based somewhat on Motor Trend's "SUV of the Year" award. After 9 months and 9,000 miles, 4 trips to the dealership and 2-3 weeks in a loaner I got rid of it and am now driving an '11 HL Limited.

My only regrets in all of this:

1) Should have kept the '02, I'd probably still be driving it today with about 150,000 miles on it (but I really have to admit the '11 is a lot nicer),

2) Buying the Subaru - it was the most problematic, frustrating vehicle I've ever owned in nearly 40 years of buying new cars, and that was after just 9 months of ownership. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I had kept it for 100K miles.

My only 2 complaints about the '11 are some small rattles behind the dash - particularly when it's cold out. This isn't unique to the '11 though as my '02 did the same thing - must be a 'design feature' . The second is all current Highlanders come with the third row seat that I have no use for - would have bought one without it if they were available, but that's life.
