Frozen vent selector knob

Hello all. I am hoping somebody has run into this problem. The vent selector knob on my 08 Highlander will not move in cold weather (sub freezing point). This is the knob that will direct the air to the defrost, feet, etc. Living in Canada, I have to leave the knob in the defrost position all winter else I will not be able to see out of the windshield. Once the interior is well warm, then I can rotate the knob with some force. No problems in the summer.

Seems like you have two options. A) move South or B) before you shut off your car in the winter turn the selector to defrost. While the car is warm.. move the selector to what ever position you need.. and return it to defrost before you shut off.

Seriously, it looks like something needs some tweaking or a shot of WD40
