2012 nav swap

Just got a highlander se at a great price. Just stripped a oem 2012 nav from a totaled limited got it in my house. Just wanted to know if anyone has done the oem swap before on a 2011 as I think the design is the same as 2012. Thanks

yes 2011-2012 should be identical (even 08-10 should fit 11-12, as interior design hasn't changed), physically it will fit but.....

You have to have JBL for this to even work.... the navi system assumes you have an external amplifier to be a processor for the sound. The amplifier takes a fixed voltage signal from the navi system for the sound input. the base (non jbl) system outputs from the headunit to the speakers (no amplfier, does use a junction block to seperate L & R from rear signal though).

The JBL system uses the same plugs (socket and pins) on both the navi and non navi system, so it should be plug and play in that regard, but your missing some very crucial things for the navigation portion of the navi system to work, along with accessories for the radio.

The Aux in socket, microphone assembly (voice commands), and rear dvd system (if you have it) uses different sockets and pins between the non nav and nav headunit (and possibly the main antenna and sub antenna connectors, but my docs are unclear).

And there are some things that the navi system requires that the non navi system does not have/use. They are:
-speed sensor input and junction block that picks up that input
-navi antenna assembly and its socket to the navi headunit
-parking brake switch assembly sensor and connector
-reverse signal into the navi system for use during rear view camera/connector

don't know if you knew all of this going in or not, just a heads up as it is not a straight up plug and play.

wow, this sounds like a major project.

Good points raised above, I wasn't sure how you could get any voice commands, etc. to work, in addition to the stereo functions, because you are missing a lot of "accessory" equipment.

Can't believe someone totalled a 2012 already. How much did you get the Nav for?

Is it a higher resolution screen than what is in my 2011?

How much did you get the unit for? I was thinking about doing this exact transplant, but into my 2010 SE. Just couldn't justify the several thousand more for a built in NAV from factory at the time of purchase... and I hate the wood trim.
