Who is Driving Highlanders?

Hi Folks.

First time poster here....

I'm considering a 2012 Highlander Limited. But, as I've been contemplating this purchase, I started noticing a lot more women driving Highlanders than guys. If I did see a guy driving one, they were at least 20 years older than me. My dad mentioned that he thinks it's a bit more for women. I've also noticed in this forum that the Highlander is "for the wife" or "it's the wife's kid hauler". I'm coming from a 2004 Ford Explorer V8.

So who all are driving Highlanders?

Thanks in advance.

I drive one and I am retired. I hope to pass it on to my wife as I miss my 21 year old Land Cruiser which I traded in to buy the Highlander. For road trips It can't be beat for comfort. I also pull a small tent trailer with the Highlander with no problem. If you buy the Highlander get the Toyota hitch if you plan to haul. There are write ups on toyota nation showing how to install the trailer hitch.
My Highlander is over 2 years old and hasn't had any prroblems or needed any adjustments. Hopefully the news ones are as good.

Guy in my 30's over here.

Have had and still have a fast car to boot when I"m not driving the Highlander, I actually traded my Lexus RX350 for a Highlander because the RX and MDX are indeed Soccer Mom vehicles.

It's funny you mention that because I kind of have a bad habit of that seeing who's driving the Highlander and notice way more Men driving them over here than Women.

I like the Highlander because it looks more like a truck inside and out than most vehicles in its class.

It is a practical vehicle for male or female drivers.. Gets me to point A or B in any weather in relative comfort and decent economy.. I guess if being macho was important I would be driving a Ford Explorer with a V8

Welcome to the forum

I have a Sequoia Platinum 5.7 V8 vs. "her" Highlander Sport 3.5 V6

If I had to give up one, it wouldn't be the Highlander.

We've got one...well, this weekend we'll have one! My wife and I are in our early 30's FWIW. Road trips and vacations are awesome in the HL. I think the previous post about Lexus RX's is a bit more accurate. I really like those cars too, but do tend to see a lot more ladies driving them. I definitely think the HL is much more masculine compared to a lot of other SUV's out there. I really do love the exterior styling.

In my neck of the woods the typical Highlander driver I see on the road are males about 50-years-old. I myself am all male too, of course.....

The Highlander is by no means a "chick car," not like a Volkswagen Rabbit or Mazda Miata are....

OP, why are you concerned about the gender of Highlander drivers?

Is that really an important consideration for you when evaluating a vehicle, what people will think of you when you are driving it, i.e. whether its a "chick car"?

LMAO...grandmonsters....haha that actually made me lol.

I'd say from what I've seen, the Highlander is fairly hard to sterotype...

I see every kind of human driving them. Obviously I'd say every vehicle in this category can be considered a "kid hauler" or "mommy mobile" because some mom's are just to cool for minivans haha, but I'd say I see a lot of "big wigs" and "office manager" types rolling around in Highlanders too...espcially where I work...

And you have what, an Explorer? Isn't that part of the F-Series??

I have owned two explorers, but the newer ones looked too much like a mini van, we didn't like the design, now the 2012's are looking more like the Highlander. We love our Highlander, great vehicle, no problems at 37,000, just a radio change out early on.

Most drivers of HL's I see here in Nashville are women or older (like 50-60+) men (basically what OP said, a lot of soccer mom cars), but my HL is my daily driver, oh and I'm a guy. And I'm definitely not retired/older, early/mid 20's here. Definitely think I'm one of the younger posters on the HL forum haha,

Male, using my HL to carry my surf boards, windsurfers and tow my toys. if you want a girl SUV look no further than Volvo. The HL is a great vehicle.

O yeah..sometimes I forget to pack my female date...

I'm a guy, but there are those days when I think I may be a giraffe trapped in a macho guy body. This concern has made me resolve that my next Highlander will have a sunroof. My brother is 6'3'' and drives a Volkswagen Beetle. He likes the headroom. It has a small flower holder built into the dash. I asked him if he was worried that the car had a "chick car" reputation. The next time I rode with him I noticed he had dumped the flower holder and put in a small brass spittoon.
