I am starting to shop around for my next vehicle to replace my HL. How is it possible that the HL is the only SUV of its size class that seems to have a perfectly flat floor (ie. no bump along the centre to house the drive shaft for rear)? I think it's fantastic....makes the rear space absolutely useable...really appreciate it now. I just don't get why every other vehicle in its class (at least that I have seen) has this huge pain in the butt bump in the middle?
BTW, drove the 2012 Explorer. I was not particularly impressed with the comfort of the seats, and seat heaters only got lukewarm after 15 min. Also, I don't drive aggressively, but man, did that thing seem gutless compared to my HL! I had to check my rear view a few times to make sure I wasn't pulling a boat or something!! My sync is cool, but they have not solved the delay obviously...the salesman had to tap the screen a total of 5 times to get the heater to respond. Doh!! Scratched it from my "a possibility" list.

our 2011 AWD limited has a completely flat rear floor, i.e. no hump at all.
nice for our 4 year old twin boys, they can just "walk" around back there.
Why are you getting rid of your Highlander?
All new Pathfinder comes out next year, supposed to be very competitive.
I also love the styling and interior on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, its a nice vehicle with great range and superior offroad capability, but I wouldn't buy but would rather lease due to long term reliability concerns.

My thoughts exactly about not having the hump...easy to get around. and storage space if you want to put a bag between the two outboard seats.
We're a one car family so I tend to swap out every 4 years or so and I always start my research 8-9 months in advance. A new HL is not off the books, but keeping my options open.
Never thought about the Pathfinder (thanks), but I fuel economy is a factor....one of the reasons that the Jeep is at the bottom of my list (including reliability), although like you, I do really like the new styling. Off road capability is not critical for me.
Cheers.

I'm toying with the possibility of ditching the Highlander and a new one or a different vehicle. A new Highlander around here is rare.. dealers can't seem to get them so if they don't have them.. I can't buy one. I almost pulled the trigger on a 2009 BMW X5 last week but it had 60k on it.. I still am toying with the idea because it was beautiful.. There seems to be a lull in the SUV market, there's nothing new out that's catching my eye and I don't want to buy a model on its way out (I said that about the XC90 when I purchased my Highlander 3 years ago )
