I don't have written instructions, but I installed OE style roof rails that I purchased from ebay. The roof rails come in pieces, and they have to be assembled. My set came with no instructions.
From what I remember, the black plastic covers on the four corners of the roof have to slide forward in order to be lifted off with a screwdriver. There is an arrow to tell you which way to slide them.
Underneath the black covers are bolts which are removed. The roof rails are then placed on the roof and bolted down - pretty self explanatory. I used lock-tite, and I was careful not to over tighten.
The hard part is getting the gray plastic covers on the roof rails after they are bolted down. The plastic covers snap onto the roof rails, and I had to repeatedly press on them to get them to seat correctly. If they are not seated correctly, there will be a gap, and I was afraid they would fall off.

The toyota manual says "Do not exceed 100 lb. (45 kg) cargo weight on the roof luggage carrier." So I assume that means 50lbs per bar.
Thanks. It's on page 229. I assume this refers to OEM cross rails (not the roof rails) and if I get a stronger 3rd party cross rail my capacity would increase.
Hello,
I'm new to this forum and wanted to install roof racks I bought from eBay on my 2011 highlander. I was hoping someone could share some information they might have.
Thanks in advance.
