Need electrical wiring diagram to install rear camera

If someone has any pictures and/or documentation of the pin assignment/color codes for the harnesses under/behind the dash and in the back of the car to help me install a rear camera/dvd/gps, I would appreciate it.

Specifically, for the dash, I am looking for the wires that represent:

a) Reverse lamp
b) Parking sensor (parking brake detection switch harness)

I believe these wires are located in the trailer wiring harness under the dash.

In the rear of the car, I am looking for the wires that represent:

a) Reverse lamp
b) Ground (should be easy, but I'm looking for the specific wire)

Thanks!!!!

for the dash stuff got 2 questions:
1) what year do you have
2) did your car come with JBL-Nav or without

I have a electric diagram for the radio that shows the reverse trigger and parking brake line, but its only there if you had OEM navigation.

for the back
also you will probably have to go to the back up bulb socket to find the wire for the reverse trigger. for ground any chassis ground will work

a) Reverse lamp
b) Parking sensor ( parking brake detection switch harness)

I believe these wires are located in the trailer wiring harness under the dash.

========================

The trailer wiring harness under the dash has 5 inputs as follows:

Connector #8 pink wire - +B voltage from 30 amp towing fuse (located in engine bay)
Connector #9 Gray wire - Stop input
Connector #10 Red wire - Right Turn input
Connector #4 Black wire - Left Turn input
Connector #3 Blue wire - Tail input

sweeney:

It's a 2011 Highlander SE. Stock radio. No JBL/Nav.

newsrv:
dumb question: are any of those wires for the reverse or parking?

I'll tie in to whatever I need to. It doesn't have to be the trailer wiring harness.

Thanks again!

well the trailer harness would work if you were using a 7 pin setup, this is a 4 pin so there is no reverse signal, only turn and brake.

Not having nav means those components are not readily available to tap into... I looked into the toyota docs I have, and the easiest way to tap into a reverse line (up front) would be to tap into the wire-harness coming out of the gear shifter in the center console...but I can't find any pin/wire info on that...So I think your best bet would be to tap into the 12v+ line going into the verse bulb in the taillight assembly and run that up to the front of the car...It would be a pain, but it would definitely get you a verse signal.

As for parking brake, there should be a switch on the actual pedal assembly. That switch should only have 1 wire coming out of it (I assume it uses a chassis ground for the negative), anyway, that is the only thing I can find that has a parking brake signal under the dash (without using the instrument panel parking brake light switch).
Thats about all I can find, are you installing an aftermarket or OEM headunit, I didn't think aftermarket ones needed a parking brake signal.

Sorry, no. There are just for trailer lights, i.e., brake lights, turn lights and tail (or running) lights.

Thanks newsrv and sweeneyp.

Sweeneyp: Yes it is after market. It looks like they recommend that input for safety purposes, so I'll probably not connect it!

Nothing is as easy as when you first envision it. It looks like I'll have a project this weekend. It's surprising that Toyota will pre-install items like a satellite radio antenna (with a proprietary interface none the less! Don't get me started on that...grrr) but not pre-wire other somewhat common items. Oh well.

I'll post my frustrations after the install. Best to both of you and thanks again!

Todd
