The other day I looked up at my sunroof (I had the sliding cloth cover open) and noticed about a dozen water droplets (it was raining) hanging from the seal at the rear. I took it to my dealership and the service guy said this was normal and proceeding to tell me about the drainage system around the sunroof. Normal? Are you kidding me - it's called a seal for a reason! One of my work colleagues has an Infiniti and his sunroof doesn't leak. My wife has a Subi Forester and her mega sunroof doesn't leak.
So two questions:
1. Has anyone else noticed that their sunroof leaks?
2. Do I trust my dealership to check the fitment of the sunroof? I'm not so trusting given the service guy told me a bunch of BS.
Completely normal for any vehicle with a sunroof. If the drains around the sunroof get plugged (and they do), then that water is going to get inside. It's not a seal designed to hold back under water when the channel fills up outside. Usually drains don't get plugged though unless you park in areas where debris from plants or trees can blow/fall on your vehicle. Many instances of this happening over many models (including the first gen highlanders).
If you don't trust the mechanic, you can easily test it out yourself. Pour water on the sunroof at each corner and see if it drains from each corner.

Well it does't yet, but I expect it to. It would be nice if you could delete certain items (read sun roof or whatever it's called) when choosing trim levels. That would be the 1960s though, when you had to ask for seatbelts and mirrors.
Service people are like all others. Some are great, and some are great at BS. I must say though, that a disproportunate number of the BS variety seem to gravitate to auto dealerships...
05Moose - perhaps there's some confusion. I'm talking about the seal around the sunroof (the glass itself). The water is coming in from the sunroof because the seal presumably has a bad fit. The drain channels and seal under the sunroof work fine. When it rained earlier this week it was like a damn waterfall. Rain bypassed the sunroof seal and then made its way into the drain channels.
bobert1634 - sort of true. We just have thunderstorms where we get an inch or two at a time. In DFW we get 35" a year of rain from memory.

I'll try and take a pic to show everyone.

Yeah, I assumed the channel was filling up and not draining, then coming in under the seal. That would be a normal result of a plugged drain. But just coming in without any plugged drains? That should never happen. Sounds like a defective seal.

It's funny this is brought up because I was coming to search and post due to this exact problem. My wife has a '11 HL and was experiencing the sunroof sticking when trying to open. When we took it to the dealer for this, they adjusted it only to find it was now leaking into the car. We took it back and was adjusted again but have since noticed the water droplets coming in from the rear during rain showers exactly where you are describing. The difference is the dealer states they even took a sunroof glass out of a new HL on the lot and placed it in ours and it still does it and is "Normal". I too have a hard time believing this as my in-laws have an '08 HL and their sunroof doesn't leak through the seal at all unlike ours. I thougt of trying another dealer to see what they say...FRUSTRATED...
No interior leaks in my 09. Sounds like your Stealership's mechanic is a moron. Take it to another Stealership. Depending on your state's law, after the third repair trip it can be considered a lemon and you might have all kinds of rights.
