Scratches

Hello, we have a relativelty new Highlander - Black - and have a few scratches, I would deem minor, does anyone recommend a decent DIY touch up paint (brand, etc.)?

Thank you in advance.

Are you sure the scratches are in the black paint, and not the clearcoat? If they are in the clear, they should just polish out.

And if it's the paint then I would recommend to leave it to professionals or leave it alone. You could make it worse. I had tried touch up paint in the past and learned it the hard way.

I agree on not going the touch-up route for hair-line scratches, more likely than not what you have can be buffed out, and touch-up will only make it more noticable.

I'd try some scratch remover polish, and LIGHTLY apply it...

If that doesn't work go to a detailer.

I had a detailer buff my truck, and it's amazing what he could actually remove with the right products and know-how.

He did mention that the paint was extremly soft, and to be careful with it.

+2, I paid dearly to learn this after applying touch-up paint on my 2008, it made the scratches more obvious and i ended up repainting. As was said before if the scratches are in the clearcoat, its a good idea to invest in a handheld buffer and polish them out yourself because this is something thats going to happen on the regular especially with a black vehicle. Otherwise take it to a prof. body shop
