2011 owners

Dear 2011 owners, I'm fighting with my dealer to get my transmission replaced due to the whine from final gears at 38-40 mph..He said its normal, but its the same issue as the rav4s with the v6 and a reman transmission with the gears honed is needed to fix.

Does anyone else with an 2011 have the gear whine at 40mph (loud)?? Im trying to gather facts for my dealer.

Thanks very much

There is no noticeable whine that I can pick up on my 2011 base with only 10000 Km on it. I have noticed that some tire and road surface conditions can set up a whine at some specific speeds.. this due to harmonics that build up and not much can be done about it short of changing the tires, perhaps tweaking the air pressure.

Well.. considering that this is the Highlander forum... Perhaps I made a silly assumption that the original poster was also inquiring about Highlanders. Could well have been a 2011 Hummer

I know I don't have an '11, but I heard it a few times from other members saying theirs does it too (past threads), mine does as well. So I've heard it for '08-10 years and I am pretty sure the entire power-train carried over for 2011.
pretty sure its just normal, just tranny whine. I have a jeep that does it too (or maybe from its transfer case...its in that general tranny area haha.)

z27ls3.... haha

edit: I'm like DavidHB below, 4th gear until like 47mph then drops into 5th gear at like 1400rpm

was attempting to determine if FWD, AWD, or Hybrid, those slight differences.
thanks for pointing out the HL forum.

for the actual post issue: I have not heard of any highlander issues such as this that need repairs.

Australian 2011 model experiencing same noise

Hi

Just to confirm 2011 model in Australia (Kluger name) is also experiencing same noise, and it's not normal...some transfer cases have been completely replaced after finding metal shavings in oil.

See this link:

http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forum...e-2011-kluger/

More people complain the more Toyota will take notice

its not normal.
I believe a current T-SB exists for rav4, i know of one local here that recently was replaced for that exact issue. the current tacoma is also experiencing rear diff whine, that noise is on/off
with throttle application. I would have dealer test drive a new one with you and point out the "normal" noise. if unable to reproduce you have a repairable condition, in this case an exchange transmission would be needed.
