Engine light on after air filter replacement

Do aftermarket air filters cause the engine light to come on? I had to disconnect the connector on top of the airflow box too to gain access. Would that cause it? I went back to the dealership and they said Toyotas are very touchy and talked me into a Toyota air filter, ($5) more then the aftermarker (no biggy) and after I installed it and pusted the odometer in and started it, the warning light went away. Saved myself $30 on a them doing it. Any opinions?
Thanks

Replaced mine with a Fram purchsed from Walmart several thousand miles ago...never got an engine light, Same on my Tacoma no problems. May have been a dirty connector.

Got it. Maybe it was because I disconnected that connector.

Was it this you unplugged?

That is the Mass Airflow Sensor. If you unplug it and start (even just turn the car on, not crank) the car its going to throw up a warning light. It would go away after you have driven some with the sensor reconnected.
not sure why you would have to unplug it to change a filter though...

Yep. Thats what I unplugged to get more access to the filter. The light went off when I turned on the car holding the odometer button in. Great trick!

I have to disconnect the MAF as well when I open my air box, but I've never had it throw a light. Glad to know the reset worked fine for you.

Check and make sure you plugged in the 3 vacuum hoses back into the air box.

Sweeneyp:
What is that thing on the top of your airbox on the right side? Mine does not have whatever that is??
