Buzz - killing - me

Took the wife's 08 HL AWD 6 Cylinder with 41K miles on it to work today.

Noticed an intermittent buzzing from the driver side dash\floor area.

It was a simple buzzzz, buzz, then nothing then 10 secs later more faint buzzing.

Improved slight as car warmed up (outside in 20 degree cold all day) but still noticed when I got home 40 mins later.

Sounds like it could be under the steering column. Very odd.

Any thoughts?

Thanks people!

Maybe the power steering motor? I just bought a 2012 and have noticed a similiar buzz in the mid firewall/dash area on the drivers side. The owner's manual says it's a normal noise.

Of course we can't tell from here how loud it is, whether you had the radio on, sitting at idle, etc. It could the normal very low buzz/hum from the electric steering motor (under the dash). Compare it to another HL.

One recent member had a noise/vibration that was caused by the motor wiring harness underneath the dash touching the steering column and/or dash. The dealer had to redress the harness.

Geez, who knows. I had some rattling and found a small 7 or 8 mm extended socket on the floor under my 3rd row....some factory worker in Japan is missing a socket. I also noted this weekend that under the seats, there are cuts or openings in the carpet through which something could pass, end up on the steel floor underneath and make unrelenting noises, just frequently enough to drive you nuts. You may want to check that out. Best way is to have a 2nd person in the vehicle who can try to pin point the location. Ultimately, it may in fact be mechanical.

Good luck.
