You might see if you can get the P/N from the dealership. You can search for part numbers on that website to find the exact piston you need. I would never have thought there would be a specific piston if you have navigation vs not and power lift gate (well that one is a little more understandable).

At first I thought a power lift gate would be a nice thing to have, but after having read so many problems with them, I guess I'm glad I got the manual instead. More goodies mean more things to go wrong. I guess my dad was right this time.
dtown40, you know summerwind is talking about the gas lift pistons on each side of the tailgate, not a power lift gate component? All HL's have them power liftgate or not

...and WHEN the liftgate motor fails, that part is $1200.00 plus tax and labor. Enjoy that high quality.
Just out of curiosity 60DRB, which HL do you own, and have you had this problem ?

its in the top left corner there behind the panel, that's the power lift-gate arm sticking out.
It should open with the motor not working, I never use the power lift-gate on mine and it doesn't sound like its turning the gears of the motor when I'm moving it. The motor might disengage somehow from the arm of the power lift-gate when not in use kinda like how a starter works, but I'm not sure. Also it works when it has no power (no battery connected) it can still be opened and closed.
60DRB...$1200 is a ton for just a small motor. I would have just ordered the motor online (its $950 for the motor, or found a junkyard. should be plenty of salvageable 08+ HL parts by now) and installed it myself and save some cash, its only 4 bolts that hold it in place. Gotta love OEM prices

Thanks for your reply!
So to operate a power liftgate manually you can just use the handle on the back?
Again sorry for the hijack these power liftgates make me kind of nervous.

You open/close it just like a normal tailgate on any car (handle, just grabbing the tailgate itself etc...), its just when you activate the power tailgate you will hear/feel it catch and it will close/open automatically. It does not hamper normal tailgate uses/operation at all

We have a '09 Limited, bought new. After about twenty months the rear hatch acted up when my wife was picking up our grandkids accross state. It went up and down several times and would not latch down until about the tenth attempt. Worked fine for several months after that incident, so we pretty much forgot about it. Then it did that again and my wife took it into the dealer and they said it just needed an adjustment and was fine. Then about 2 or 3 months past the waranty expiration the hatch did the same thing again, only this time when it finally latched down it made a loud thumping noise and the hatch was pulled down hard toward the driver side and was jammed shut completely. This time when I took it to the dealer it took the mechanics about an hour to get it open. I was told the electric motor was bad and the replacement part alone was $1200.00. Any other questions?
