2011 Highlander vinyl strip along roof rack

Hi,

We have snow today and my wife was out and about. When she got home. I noticed ice/snow under a vinyl strip that is under the roof rack rail on the drivers side. The strip was sticking up.

I was told a while back that newer cars use these depressions in the roof to attach the headliner. Is this true?

Should I expect water to come in from the roof?

I cleared out the ice/snow and pushed the vinyl strip back in, but it doesn't feel like it will stay in without some help. Not to mention, it doesn't feel like it will be water tight. What should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Have a Great Day!!! Ralph : )

Don't worry about it leaking, but since it's coming off I would have the dealer look at it next time you go in. At least with the roof racks, it won't fly off. Many Tacomas have had that problem without the roof racks installed where the strips completely flew off on the freeway. Aside from the screw holes for the roof rack, there is nothing else that passes thru the roof.

Those depressions where the strips are serve a couple of purposes, none of which have anything to do with the headliner.

I had the same problem about a month ago. Coming out of a no-touch car wash. When the drying blower kicked in I saw the drivers side strip hanging down. Just a compression fit.
