2012 Highlander distorted windshield

After picking up my wifes new highlander last week, I noticed that the cars ahead of me looked magnified or distorted in some spots. It was giving me motion sickness and when i said something to my wife about it she also noticed it. So we get home and I get out of the car leaving the front door open and stepping back about five feet and looked through the windshield and its terribly distorted.

Took the car back that day and they made an apt to install a new one.
So the new windshield goes in and its also distorted! WTF! T general manager looks at it and agrees, so he gets a highlander off the lot, pulls it up and it also has a distorted windshield!

So then he says hes gonna have to work at getting a new windshield for me because toyota is gonna wonder why this new car is on its 3rd windshield.
My wife says too bad, get another windshield.

Needless to say, we are still waiting to hear back from them.

By the way, Im sure its the plastic inbetween the two pieces of glass that is causing this.

Thankfully, I have never had that problem, but I remember Consumers Reports ran into that issue on some new cars as well. Not sure what brand they were though.

Back in 08 you were stuck with Toyota OEM windshield glass.
I got hit with a rock and needed it replaced.
Had to wait 5 weeks to get one shipped from Japan.

I believe there are now other makers of Highlander windshields.

You might check with a reputable auto glass place is see if this is true.
If the dealer can't get a Toyota windshield without defects another manufacturing source may correct the problem.

If this is occurring on more that your HL sounds like Toyota quality is hitting the skids again

I don't think it's a universal problem - maybe a bad batch of windshields from the supplier. My '11 Limited has no distortion that I can detect and it's something I sensitive about.

As a comparison take a look at the new Honda Odyssey. A bit over a year ago I was looking at them and every one I saw reminded me of going through a fun house. Almost got motion sick just sitting still.

I have a '12 that I've had for 4 weeks and haven't noticed any windshield distortion yet. But the knocking from the steering keeps me pretty well distracted. Now I'm gonna OCD on trying to see if I have this problem too.

It usually is an intermediate shaft problem.
The link below is for a Avalon but this problem has stuck with Toyota products forever.

I had the same issues with replacement windshields in my Accord and my Denali. All the defective ones were PPG glass. The glass that had worked the best was from Guardian. They made 4 attempts on my Denali before they switched to Guardian. The defective windshileds I had were actually problems with the glass, you could see the imperfections where the rubber made the seal. I'm sure what you are running into is a bad batch of windshields.
