On my truck, the crank's t-chain sprocket slide over fairly easily. Remember , its got a key way slot. The new/old sprocket also will have a dot on it. Line the shiney link up w/ that and do the same up on the camshaft. You'll be fine doing the chain swap. watch the dissy rotor when you slide it back it, make sure it points to that #1 terminal(you scribed a mark on the dissy housing, didn't you?) good luck!

Set cilinder 1 to Top Dead Center(TDC)
The crank should have the square key facing up and the round key on the cam should also be up. The brigh links match up with the crank gear at the dot on the bottom of the crank/crank gear and at the top with the dot on the top of the cam gear.
As for the distributor. If you didn't have a scribed mark or in my case had to change the head the rotor should point to the 10 o'clock position. Face the rotor to between 11 and 12 o'clock and the rotor should spin to the 10o'clock position. you might have to try a couple of times to get it correct and use the dist cap to make sure the rotor matches up with plug 1.
Removing the crank sprocket. I used a breaker bar and a buddy to hold the brakes and loostened the nut holding the pullies on. As for taking the sprocket off I carefully tapped it off. I think I used a bar or somthing and carefully moved around the sprocket untill it was off. You may have to take the outer part off first tho. I can't exactly remember as its been a few months sence I disasembled it last.

As for getting the gasket off use a gasket scraper. Its a kind of razor blabe with a handle behind it. Best way to describe it is imagine a rasor blade with the sharp part being the top of a "T". They word great. I also recently found out that steel wool is great for getting the little bits off that the scraper may miss and it shines up the flat surfaces nicely without damaging.
After you do the T-chian and you still have a cylinder dead I would check the electronics and do a conpression test. Than scrap it if you like.

yeh gasket scraper.... they also make spray-on gaket remover you can buy from you local parts store to help. timing marks line up at 12'oclock except for dizzy, cyl#1... there are keyways on the sprockets that help.
as far as tightening the crank bolt back down, just put it in park and use a breaker bar or torque wrench
