I've searched alot of this forum and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have an '86 4runner with a 22re, Put a new longblock in and still trying to get it to start correctly.
When I start the engine it cranks and cranks 8 - 10 times before firing up and then runs rough for the first 10 - 20 seconds that its running before smoothing out. It does'nt matter if the engine is warm or cold. I'm sure that the problem has to be in the intake or something else reused from the old engine.
I changed the feul filter and checked the feul pump, checked\cleaned cold start injector, checked cold start time switch, observed that I'm maintaining feul pressure (for at least 2 days). First mechanic I took it to checked out the coil and ignition, said the spark was hot, and confirmed that the feul pressure was on the money. Suggested that since it did start every time and that it smoothed out and ran fine, then probably wasn't damaging anything and wasn't worth the cost to troubleshoot

I did not want to hear this. not after a $1600 longblock. The 2nd mechanic said it needed a new o2 sensor and told me to flip the $140 for the OEM brand, I bought the sensor and put it in myself . Ran a little bit better didn't fix the problem. So I said f*^k it and paid the $98/ hour for Camelback Toyota service only for them to tell me to put denso plugs back in it, and stick to 91 octane (my truck always gets premium). that's all they had unless I wanted to pay for more hours for them to look closer at it. they've been dealing with 22r's and re's for 20 yearsI couldn't believe all they could come up with was spark plugs so I took my truck home with me, did stop in parts and get the plugs though. amazingly enough they did make my truck run a little better but didn't fix the problem. (Bosch Platinums SUCK)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm ready to hear devilbitch fire right up. She's nickle and diming the hell out of me.
