changed alternator - belt squeaks

I am just wondering if this means the belt is too loose, or too tight?

There is about 1/2 inch of flex when you push on the belt. The belt was changed last year when I did a tune up, and the belt is in "new" condition....

So again, too loose or too tight?

Sounds like your belt is too loose to me. Do you know how to tighten it? If you don't I can help with that.

Ya, I can tighten it more....I just set the tension based on what the manual calls for.

I'll tighten it s'more, and see if the squeak goes away.

If you tighten your belt and it is still squeaking there is a spray that you can buy at the auto store or rub some beswax on the belt.

Do not use anything on the belt! They were not designed for it. It will degrade the life of the belt and temporarily mask the real problem. Is it the right belt? They come in different pitches. Was th sheave on the alternator the same as the original? If the sheave pitch is different on the crank and alternator, it could cause sqealing.

its okay....I ended up getting a newer 4runner...

My 1990 has 350,000KMs and just needed way too much....I picked up a '94, so I can use my '90 for parts.

Thanks though....
