I want to buy a Fabtech Desert Guard for my 87 Pickup. Anyone heard good or bad about them, I know this one doesn't come with the skid plate, but, I plan on making my own extra tough one anyway. Thanks for the feedback.

they are OK, but if you are going to make the skid plat your self anyway, why not make a custom bumper as well. to make the skid plat you will need a metal angle press, and anywhere that has one will have a tube bender as well.

Its just that I would buy the base from Fabtech, so it would fit the truck, and add on to it, adding skid plates and braces. I can weld very well, just I dont have access to metal benders of that size. To make the angled skid plate, I would just cut two pieces of steel, chamfer the edges, and weld them together. You can buy the Fabtech piece unpainted so that I can weld on it.
