anyone here done mods to 22r?

I plan to do this in the future with my 22r, I would be curious to know from people who have done these kind of upgrades if they were satisfied with the results.
I was thinking of something like a weber 38/38 with a moderate cam and header.
I know the stock engine puts out 95 horsepower and I think about 125 ft lbs torque, how much increase could I expect?
How many horses can you get out of the engine with maybe dual sidedraft 40's or 45's?
any suggestions for makers of cams or headers would be appreciated.
I was on a parts store site a while ago and it said that the common 2 and 5/8 inch diameter pipes that you see a lot of are actually to big, I guess not enough back pressure?

You can swap in a GM 4.3V6 and make loads more power for less than the side draft carbs setup alone.

yeah those duals are pricey, I think I would do a swap before I paid that much for carbs.

that wouldn't be a v6, they're inline 6's. I'm thinking a 3sgte transplant would be much better

I put in a comp cams 268 with my stock carb setup, and built my own 2.5" exhaust. Big gain in power, and I didn't have extra costs for tranny adapters.

I've heard that the 2.7 liter 4 cyl is an awesome engine. A friend of mine has a toyota only shop and knows a guy who has over 800,000 kms on his 2.7 and it's never been apart!!!

is it basically based on the previous 2.4, just bored and/or stroked?

and what's different about the 2RZ-FE from the regular 22RE?
sorry, I am getting pretty knowledgable about 22R but don't know much about the newer engines.

2.5 is WAY huge on a 22r/re. with a 2.5 you'll have high end hp, but that is not what these rigs run on. 2 or 2.25 at most for exhaust size. 2 will maximise torque and 2 and a quarter, hp. Pacesetter sells a good tri-y style header for much less than the Thorley but people say it could rust after XXX amount of time although none seem to have had that problem yet.

Engnbldr.com has some awesome cams but Comp, Crane, and TRD sell them too.

It sounds like you are on the right path with a carb upgrade, cam, header and exhaust you should feel a pretty good difference. Numbers are hard to estimate and I havent dynoed my rig since i rebuilt it but I say build for maximum fun factor not to hit a hp goal.
