USA 94 Toyota Pickup "Brakes"

I was wonder'in if anyone can help me figure something out on my brakes...my wife came home from work Friday and she had problems stopping, said the brakes went to the floor...I checked the brake fluid and it was empty, I filled it back up and the brakes was still not right...it went all the way to the floor...I pumped the brakes several times and it didnt improve...I drove it up the road (on gravel) and slamed the brakes to the floor and only the back driver side wheel it catching...I drove it into town and come back home and the brakes are still going to the floor but checked the brake fluid again and it was about half full...if I keep filling it back up till its completely full will it start working again...not sure at this time if I have a leak or not...if I dont and ran the brake fluid dry will I need to bleed the brakes again?

Thank You all for any suggestions

If I'm reading that right, you said you filled it back up, drove it, and the level was way down?

I'm assuming you checked externally for leaks. If you saw nothing there, pull the rear wheels and drums. Does it look oily or wet? If so, you have a wheel cylinder leaking. It looks gooped up cause the fluid mixes with the brake dust. Should be completely dry back there.

Thank You for the fast reply...I wasnt able to do anything (checking for leaks) because my wife works from daylight till dark and I have my 1 year old here so I couldnt do much of anything sorry....I was bale to fill the brake fluid back up to full again after it was half full the second time...I just went up the road again in it and the brakes are starting to fill right again..I pulled me E-brake all the way out and tried to pull out and it started to quit...could all this be just because I ran it dry (with no leak) and for the brake fluid to work its way back into the brake lines for it to start working right again?

sorry if you dont understand me, I just dont know much about brakes

alright..I checked for leaks and I do have one...I dont think I can post a pic so I will try to say where its at..on the passenger side back tire between the gas tank and the frame their is a hose (brake)...I had my wife hit the brakes while I was under it to find the leak and I seen the leak...is there anything I can do to repair it? or should I take it to a repair shop and let them fix it?

If I patch the leak or put a new hose then would I need to bleed the brakes?

Thank You,
Jason

My '91 4Runner got a leak in the same spot. I had a little pinhole in the brake line and it leaked.
Youre probably going to have to just replace the brake line.
Once you get the line replaced, I would bleed the brakes. Otherwise the brakes will feel a little spongey.

you may be able to buy a stock replacement line from the dealer ( is it metal? ).
Or if you find a good mechanic, he can buy the metal line and fittings and bend to fit, but not many guys even know how to do that.
