Question 05 4 cylinder 4x4 MPG?

I'm coming up on 10,000 miles and my average mpg is 18.6 pretty consistently. This seems way off, considering I drive about 50% highway/50% city, and I take it easy on the throttle for the most part..

Anyone get about the same mpg with their 4 cylinder 4x4 Access Cabs? I'm hoping the mileage gets better with more miles on the engine?

R/

One thing you could look at is improving your air intake and exhaust. This doesnt mean a loud exhaust, just more free flowing. My brother has an 05 2wd 4cyl and he gets about 20 mpg or so. I think you get less because the 4wd is heavier for the 4cyl to push, and has more places to lose power like the transfer case and such. My old 22R 4cyl 87 4wd only gets about 18 mpg, and it always has. Gas mileage shouldn't go up with age, unless things wear and cause less drag, but, that would be bad for your engine. Good luck.

If you live in a climate that has cold winters, you wont be getting your best milage right now.
In the summer months, my F-150 gets 15.8 mpg back and forth to work (50% city, 50% country roads) but lately it has dropped to about 13-14 mpg. Its because of the cold.
