Transmission/clutch question

The other day I noticed a weird thing with my '97 Tacoma V6 5-speed with 54,500 miles. I had it in the driveway (it's flat with no grade at all) motor running in neutral, hand brake off, and it started to creep forward. So I decided to test it. I pulled out and turned the truck around just in case there was some kind of grade in my driveway, and tried it again in the opposite direction. It did creep forward again, now in the opposite direction.

I have noticed nothing else out of the ordinary. The truck runs fine and does not cause any problems. That couldn't be normal, could it? Could the synchronizers not be fully disengaged when in neutral? I give up. What could cause this?

Thanks for any help.

If it's your syncro's...which I really doubt...there is a way to test it...does your truck creep when the clutch is depressed?

First intuition I get is the 4WD system...that is more likely to cause that problem than the tranny which gets used and lubed all the time..

I actually misstated what I am experiencing with my truck. I meant to say it has a tendancy to creep forward, not that it actually does creep. By that I mean the truck does not actually move by itself. What I have done is to push the truck while it's running and in neutral, hand brake off. Forward is very easy - takes hardly any effort. However trying to push it backwards is a real effort. Now, when the engine is off, pushing the truck forward or backwards is pretty much the same effort. I hope this made more sense than my original post.
