Question 92 pu / clicking/not starting

I have a 92 5speed Toyota Pickup Truck that for several weeks has done the following..in turning
the key to start. I will hear a click and it will not start. After pressing the clutch hard again, it would start. Now it will it only click without starting. If I press the white button switch under the upper left dash for several times, it will turn over and start. But if I turn it off and try again it will only click again. Pushing the switch again will make it start. Can anyone tell me
what is causing this problem. Much thanks for any advice!

sounds to me like you need a new starter ... sometimes when starters go out they click and don't start. This is because the gears in the starter are misalligned or could be broken. The actions that you are doing ie. stepping on the clutch hard or pressing the white button are jolting the starter just enough for the gears in the starter to get in place. I once had a starter that got so bad that I had to lift up the hood and tap the starter with a hammer for it to get the gears re-alligned for it to start .... if you dont have any other problems happening I would guess its the starter for sure ... its pretty cheap and easy to replace ... good luck

Don't get a new starter! Rebuild it! You can go to your local dealer and get the starter contacts. Like 5$ each. Pull the starter, replace the contacts, and sand off the solenoid contact. Good as new. I did this on my 91'
