Recommend a reliable toyota truck

Im looking to sell my current car (01 bmw 330) to get rid of some of the monthly payment. I just bought a house and want to be able to actually start saving money again. Im thinking of getting a used midsize truck or SUV. I dont really want a big gas hogging V8. I dont need to tow anything. 4WD would be nice but when it comes down to it, not very necessary for me. I just want something cheap and reliable, that I can throw the bike or snowboards in the back and go.

Can you guys tell me which models and years I should look at, or maybe its easier to just tell me if there are any to stay away from. Also up to what mileage do these truck/SUVs stay very reliable. I dont want something that Im going to have to put any money into. I only plan on having the truck/SUV for a few years, and would probably put 20,000 miles on it per year.

Thanks

look for anything 2004 and under. or 1995.5 and under. the 4 cylinder 22r-re in the trucks under '95 are very reliable. but make sure the timing chain/tensioner/guides are chainged if your getting close to 200k miles. its a $1000 job minimum to get someone to do it, $300 if you do it yourself.
there are some trucks with upwards of 3-400,000 miles and their trucks are still very reliable.

the three liter v-6 are not the best engine, but any truck with any other engine is good.

I agree, avoid one with a 3.0L V6. Those had headgasket problems.
Other than that, the Tacoma is pretty much a flawless truck that should give you many years of reliable service.

the 3.o's, if the headgasket wasn't done can still be done under the recall $$$$ free. sometimes the entire engine is replaced. just get the vin number and go to your local toyota dealer and make see if it has or hasn't been done.
but its more money and is more involved when doing maintenance on.

just look for a used 4x4 pickup that is a few years old. the old ones are great to, but it sounds like you are looking for something with a few creature comforts and stuff like that. the newer v-6's are good. i forget what year they put in the 3.4L, but it isn't a bad engine.

the 95.5 and up to 2004 trucks are good, the 3.4 v6 is better than the 3.0 in the previous models.
