Question Any Ideas? - clutch housing bolts

Sorry to anyone who saw this in the 94' truck forum and is seeing it again. I realized this is more of a general tech question so I posted it here.

Has anyone ever had a problem with the bolts holding the clutch housing to the back of the engine? I replaced the clutch about 3 years ago. At some point I had a coolant leak and couldn't find it. I took it to a shop and they finally found out it was a "bolt missing from the back of the engine". So they replaced it and everything was fine.

2 years later I am looking around trying to find the cause of an oil leak on the front of the engine (From what I have read on this forum it is probably the crankshaft oil seal).
Anyway, I looked at the back of the engine and it looks like there are at least 3 or 4 bolts missing from where the transmission/clutch housing attaches to the engine.

I think I remember putting that lock-tite stuff on them because someone told me to when I was doing the job. I am not sure though. I would have tightened them to the specified torque.

I am going to start looking for a place to get more bolts. Any ideas on how I can make sure they don't come out again?

Thanks,

Check your torque wrench

I'd say that if you are certain they were properly tightend that it is possible that previously they were overtightend enough to damage the bolts so they won't hold torque. Probably would be best to replace them all and make certain they are torqued properly.

Loc-tite should not be necessary. I've had hundreds of trannies out and never had a bolt come loose that I am aware of.

Thanks for the reply. If you have put a buch on trans. back on with no problems then it must be something strange. Off to find some bolts.
