3/4 ton or 1 ton - when ?

When will Toyota start building a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck to compete with Dodge, Ford, & Chebbie ?

They would sell like hot cakes !

1 ton - 4x4, Diesel, bullit proof automatic, short bed, crew cab with heavy duty brakes, towing/paylod, warranty, etc. Must look good. The Tundra is awful ugly.

Right now there, Toyota is just trying to get it's foot in the door to be taken seriously in the 1/2 ton market. When Toyota feels they've done that, then I'm betting you will be larger models start to make their way into the lineup but until then, I'm betting that Toyota will sit back and make sure they don't shoot themselves in the foot.

The new Tundra, except for payload, already is up there with gasoline engined so-called 3/4 ton trucks of a decade ago, or as recently as 2003, in the case of the non-SuperDuty F-250.

"Tonnage" is a useless term. Does a Tacoma, with certain equipment, not carry 1500lbs? Isnt that 3/4 ton? 8500lb GVW is the cutoff between light duty and heavy duty emissions, and that is what I think you really mean.

The first one to sell a light-duty emissions turbodiesel in California wins my business, regardless of brand.
