What Toyota?

Hey I'm new here and I'm turning 16 pretty soon and me and my dad were talking about getting me a truck. Since I was born up to age 12 I remember my dad having a 1990 Pick-Up 4x4, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. That thing was bulletproof. My uncles always borrowed it and ended up abusing it, but it would start every time, never a problem (well almost). He had to start traveling to work to a place 4 hours away and the Toyota was getting old and wouldn't make it, so we had to sell it. Before he did he bought a 91' Pick-Up so he could swap the good interior from the 91' to his 90'. I remember he got me to do it while he did some bodywork and swapped the engine. I swapped everything from the wheel, seat, carpet, clock, radio and I actually wired the radio and clock right. Not bad for a 12 year old. That was my first time actually learning/working on a vehicle. That’s what pretty much got me hooked onto cars and trucks. Since then I learned allot about drivetrains, suspension and all. Right now I'm currently restoring a 73' VW Super Beetle. Now to the point. Since we had that Toyota for so long and loved it, I'm looking at 91' to 04' Tacoma's. 4 cylinder, extended cab, 5 speed. It will be a daily driver, but I'll end up adding a lift and tires to it so I can get to the local mud run we have every year. Is there any particular model I should get between 91' and 04'? Any known problems with them?
Thanks for reading.

I can't help you with 1st gen Tacos (I skipped from a 79 to an 07), but I can say you're looking at a good series of trucks that plenty of dudes offroad.

I can also suggest that if you're looking to build an offroad rig that you check out TTORA.com/forum
