4 Cylinder versus V6 on a 4 Runner?

So, Im looking to be a first time Toyota owner, and am in the market for a mid 1990's 4Runner. Now, I would just like to hear some opinions on whether there is sufficient power in the 4 cylinder (what kind of horsepower they put out) compared to the V6. Would you solely shop for a V6? Or settle for a 4 cylinder? Can the 4 cylinder pull a boat easily? Stuff like that.

Thanks for the help.

Thumbs up 4runner

both will do the job but for the money I am partial to the 4cyl.
growing up My dad had an 84 4runner that would pull a 24' boat with twin 200 evenrudes in florida. wasn't the fastest but got better mileage that the suburban he got later. If I were to do it again and had a choice. 4runner with the 22re or 22rte with a big cam (like I have) and a header (I have also) my 87 has some killer torque compaired to stock and the 22re engines are one of the easiest engines to rebuild or get parts for! I rebuilt mine with the cam, header, steel chain timing kit and all the fixin's for under $350.
