94 Toyota pickup brake light problems

I have a 94 Toyota 4x4 pickup. I've been working on getting it on the road and thought I was ready when I realized there are no brake lights. I've checked the bulbs and after I replaced the one in the third light, they are all good, but still no lights. I pulled the left side housing off for the brake lights this afternoon and found a broken wire going to the connector. It's black with either a red or green stripe, I couldn't tell for sure. I'm wondering if this is the problem or if it's the brake switch itself. Can anyone give me a diagram of how the wires are supposed to go into the connector from the truck side so I can check and see where the broken wire goes, there doesn't seem to be a similar one on the right side.

also, while we are at it, where can I get the brake switch at if I need one? Do I need to go straight to the toyota dealer or will someone else carry it?

thanks

unplug the connector at the switch, use a jumper wire and put in the 2 connectors, if it works the switch is bad or out of adjustment. the switch is 25.00 usd at dealer. there is also a connector underneath pass. seat.
