90' toyota 4cyl 5 speed shifter problem

my truck seems to be slipping out of gear, especially 3rd and 4th gear. 1st, 2nd, and 5th seem ok. what could cause this? it is a standard transmission, 5-speed. i noticed that the oil was overfilled, could this be related to the problem? i let some oil out and it still does it. it seems like the shifter just pops out of gear especially over bumpy terrain. when i keep my hand on the shifter and hold it in gear, it doesn't pop out. sometimes it makes a grinding noise when i try to put it back into gear after it slips out. could i need a new clutch? any suggestions or comments are welcome. thank you

Have you recently added a body lift or anything? Motor mount lift? It could be that your shifter is barely hitting part of the body and that is not allowing it to set into gear. You might pull the outer boot and check.

To see if anything is between the body and the shifter keeping it from traveling the full motion into gear.
