jack height?
I'm going to buy hydraulic jack and jackstand. But since my parents will buy a RAV4 very soon. I need to make sure my jack and jackstand will work on their SUV also.
now I wonder, is 2 tons jack enough? I think so but I'm more concern on the "lifting range", those 2 tons jack only lift for 14", is this enough for a RAV4??? If not, what is enough?
thank you for anyone's help in advance.

I have a 6 ton jack that extends to 18" and it works well with the jeep you see below. Got it from Tractor Supply.

6 tons with 18" lifting range!?!?
oh my...those are much more expensive... is any one here have a lighter jack with less lifting range such as 15" and still works on a RAV4??
thank you.

Oldman, when you mentioned "few blocks", you meant like bricks, wood or something?
do you guys think jack with 14" lifting range is enough to lift a RAV4?

yeah, wood, just so you can get that 5-10 inch gap that you're wasting to get to the chassis

Thanks guys!
so you meant it is safe to put some wood under the hydraulic jack, in order to increase the height and extends the lifting range!? THANK YOU!

between the jack and the car, i guess you could put some under the jack too, but i usually just use some bits of 2x4, or 4x4
2x4's split after a few times

just take little bits of wood, 6 or so inches, pile them up, don't stand the wood up, just stack a bunch of little bits of 2x4's and you'll be fine
the one on the bottom usually gets a nice footprint of the jack

Just buy the proper height jack for your vehicle.

JeremyH, the reason why I posted this thread here is, I don't have my RAV4 yet!! That's why I don't know what's the "PROPER" height jack for my car, not sure if 14" is enough or not....and hope the people here have this car and are using the jack...
