Engine Swap

I was wondering if the engines (Block and Head) would swap between an '87 22r and a '95 22re. I've got a wrecked '87 and I'm thinking about buying a '95 with a blown engine. It threw the timing chain, so I'd have to use my old head too. thanks.

pretty sure the re head will go on the r block, get a pair of the haed gaskets and compare them, but also watch for combustion chamber size and deck to cam gear height, I put a 20r head on a 22r block, raised compression greatly, blew many head gaskets

This is for a 4runner or truck? Because 85 was the first year for fuel injection so you should have a 22re.

They're both trucks, and the '87 is carbeurated. I think it was still optional or something in '87. I imagine I'm gonna have to find a head for Fuel injection. Or maybe could I swap valves? Anyone Know? I think that's all in the head that's damaged.
