Can anyone give me some more info about a 95 toyota non-tacoma pickup truck?
Hello,
I just bought a 1995 Toyota Pickup truck that looks just like a 95 tacoma, but according to the VIN number, it is listed as a "1995 TOYOTA 1/2 TON XLONG WB DELUXE". This truck was manufactured in 12/94. Is this truck the same as the 95 tacoma? If not, what is the differences.
Thanks,
Brian
Well, if it looks like a tacoma, then it's a tacoma. The only other thing it could be is the mini (the regular truck), but if it doesn't look like it, then it's a tacoma. The first tacomas are considered '95.5. It sounds like you got the first one. For more info check out www.tacomaterritory.com

I got the same thing.
I think it was the last year for those pickups. I'm not too concerened about whether it is officially Tacoma or not because it seems like a great truck.
However, people ask me what it is, I tell them it's a Toyota Pickup and then they say, yeah, but what kind of pickup. You can imagine the rest...
Is it a 6 cylinder or a 4? I believe (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) that the 95(known as Toyota Truck) had the 3.0 v6 and the 95 & 1/2 (when they changed the name to Tacoma) is when the 3.4 v6 came into production.

it's the same one i've got.. it's an 89-95 Toyota Pickup.. it's a good truck.. change the oil and drive it like a 40 year old and you'll get 300,000 miles on a stock clutch.. believe me.. it's a great truck.. never give you any problems.. but if it SAYS tacoma on it.. than it's the 95 1/2 toyota tacoma.. but something tells me it's just a pickup
I agree- the 3.0 v6 is a very reliable engine. My 1988 Toyota 4x4 had the 3.0 and other than just regular maintance (fluid and filter changes, occasional tune-ups, etc.) I had no major engine problems (at 185,000 miles) with it at all- I would still be driving it if I hadn't totalled it last year- I got broadsided in the driverside by an SUV doing 45mph..and I walked away from the accident with only a few bruises and cuts [from my drivers side window shattering]. My truck's frame was bent so bad that the drivers side of the bench seat was more than 4" higher than the passenger side of the seat....and yet the engine still ran and my friend was able to drive the truck back to my house. I now have the 3.4 v6 in my 2004 and I believe it will be just as reliable. Take care of your 95 Toyota and it should last you a long time.

No Tacoma on it so it's a pickup.
Glad to hear the engine is well regarded. I do plan on taking care of it and taking it easy on it as well.

Some say that the 95 pickups were the last year of the 300,000 mile Toyota pickups. I've got 172,000 on my 93 on stock motor and stock clutch and guess what? It starts right up EVERY morning. I mean right up, immediately. 10 degree crisp day or sunny 100 degree scorcher. These trucks are bulletproof if you take care of the little things. I've heard from a number of multiple-Toyota owners and from even dealer mechanics that these trucks are considered far more reliable than Tacomas. And that is a compliment, b/c I've always known Tacomas to be reliable trucks. But the 2.4L (22RE) and 3.0L (3VZE) engines are the best Toyota truck engines ever built.

Good to know.
I guess I will be putting that to the test. I have no plans to part with this bad boy anyttime in the foreseeable future.
Thanks for the info.
Tacomas have very different front fenders, and are easy to distinguish from the normal Toyota trucks. I have a 94 with a 22RE, and I absolutely love it. It is the best car I've ever owned. On the bad side, since nothing every breaks (other than the crappy OEM shocks), I'm stuck continually looking for ways to upgrade it. Like everyone says, just turn the key and it starts every time...dang it (LOL)
You don't have as much power as the newer Tacomas, but you have one of the best, most durable trucks ever built! These are the 1,000,000 mile trucks that Toyota used to advertise.
I bought my Truck when it was new (and other than the normal routine tuneup items), and I have only had to replace: shocks, starter, clutch slave cylinder, battery, and timing chain over 10 years and 95K miles of ownership.
I never had any problems with my 1988's 3.0L V6. The problems that I did hear of were caused by faulty seals- I believe Toyota had the problem taken care of by the early 90's (I also believe they did a recall on the affected vehicles- apparently not all of the "early" 3.0L engines were affected). The 1995 truck that you bought should be fine.
