Hey all!
I just bought a 82 Toy PU, 4cyl, a get me around truck. When I go to start it, even in warm weather (80 deg F) it starts and idles, but seems to miss terribly, and definately wants to die. There is a lot of black smoke during this time, as well. Looking in the top of the carb during this time, the choke is open, and I see what seems to me like too much gas being dropped into the carb.
Here's the strange part: In about 10-15 minutes (of idling) the problem completely disappears. The engine dosen't miss at all, and everything runs GREAT! It is a very immediate change, there is really no in-between. It idles perfectly, and there are no signs that anything is wrong. If you look again at the carb, the amount of gas going in has dropped significantly.
I did the normal things, cleaned out the carb, adjusted the idling screw, etc., but I'm not sure where else to look... If it weren't for the extra gas, it seems like it would be running fine. What controls that flow of gas, and why would it change so drastically? Any other ideas???
