Another timing belt question
Iv'e done a search but can't find an answer to my question. Sorry if this is a well-worn topic.
I have 82,000 miles on my 4Runner and thought that the timing belt didn't need to be changed until 90,000 miles. If this is true, then why am I reading that some people have changed the belt at 60,0000?
Just as important, is it true that, if the timing belt breaks, no damage can occur to the pistons and valves? Seems hard for me to believe, especially after having timing belt issues and associated catastrophic engine failures ingrained in me from other Japanese auto products.
Thanks in advance!
