I have been looking into buying LC Engineerings 2.6 stroker crank kit for my 85' 22r. Anybody know if i can still use all the stock equipment on the engine such as the valvetrain, intake, carb, ignition, etc. or would the stroker be a waste without other mods? Do i need to get the head ported or will bigger valves do? I don't want to have to replace the carb if i don't have to because i currently get 26mpg and am very pleased with that. Please let me know what the best and cheapest options would be to use this stroker crank. I am not looking for a race motor, simply one that will keep up on the highway and be able to pull hills at decent speeds! Thanks for the help.
All the stroker crank will do is add torque. Now it should be alright to use the same heads and such. As you are only looking for a little more grunt. Us chevy guys stroke or shit all the time with the stock heads!!!
It's always best to get the answer from the "horse's mouth" than to guess. I've purchased a lot of stuff from them over the last couple of years, and they have been very straight with me over the phone.
I trust them for the straight answer.
If I were to guess, I would think you could re-use everything in, and attached to the head.
You'll be WAYYYYYYYY happier if you swap a 4.3V6 in instead. I hate a GM product to the bottom of the recycled bin of old McDonald's hamburger containers that they build them out of....
But...
truth is truth, and you'll never get the power out the 22r that a stock 4.3 makes.
And yes, there is a kit available that uses your stock trans.
Actually LC Engineering can give you more power than a stock 4.3L
If you talk to them about their turbo motors, they have customers pushing well over 300HP with one of their turbo 22REs, but that takes more than just a simple kit. You have to dig into the motor and put forged pieces everywhere, not to mention dropping the compression so the engine doesn't eat itself. Definitely some build up in the bottom end just to handle that kind of power! Stand alone fuel management, a Stage V head...the list goes on... They can probably build you a 22RE that will push 400hp if you have deep pockets. LCE loves building those engines!
If you want a torque-master, jump over the 4.3L to the 5.7L V8. There are quite a few of them in Toyota trucks.
If you use all the stock stuff and just stroke it, you'll most likely get more torque down low, but run out of air sooner as you wind it out. Those heads are kinda choked stock. Doubt you need bigger valves, but porting, intake and exhaust should go a long way with the longer stroke.
