First of all, can anyone tell me what the differences are between the camry/lexus 3vz-fe and the truck 3vz-e engines, besides the DOHC and the transverse/longitudinal mounting differences? I want to know about the engine block specifically, and the mounting points. Next what's different with the newer 5vz-fe? Block, heads, mounting points transmission to block mounting holes, etc...
I ask these questions because I think it would be really fun to have a 5vz-fe powered camry... Now, if you dont know anything and even if you do, don't reply just saying that I am dumb, and it will never work. If you don't think it will work, state your reasoning. Give proof. If you think it might be possible, also say why and how. If there are only slight differences with the 3.0l 3vz-fe and the 3.4l 5vz-fe, then I might actually attempt this.
thanks bro. sorry i didnt find that one before....
a lot of people say, well the engine is mounted longitudinally, and obviously it is, but if the e153 tranny will bolt up to it, it shouldnt be difficult to turn sideways as long as we can get motor mounts to work with it. i didnt look at the links yet, but i will check them out later. my girl is here, and we are looking for a movie. this idea is crazy though isnt it. oh my lord a camry with a 3.4L engine........ (insert homer simpson's drooling sound)
i don't know squat about camarys, but i am looking to put one of those engines into my 1st gen 4runner and one problem is that it is taller than the 3vze. the options have been to custom fab an oil pan and custom motor mounts or cut the hood or slap a 2" body lift.
its not the engine that excites me, i could get as 3.4 from boring out a 3vzfe, its the supercharger that fits on no problem that's got my panties in a bunch
oldman, i read those threads, oh my lord..... it makes it look sooooooo easy. Plus, you can get a motor for like 7-900 bucks. Thats incredible. Ok, now all we need to know is if the block is the same between the 3vzfe and the 3vze. if so, then the mounts will fit. also, the flywheel will probably fit, and then the tranny will fit, oh my lord i am getting so excited..........!!!!
well, from the posts in those links, it says the motor mounts bolt in the same location on the 3vze and 5vzfe... we NEED to find out if the block is the same with the 3vzfe too... there is a guy in a class with me at college who used to work toyota, and i believe he will know for sure. unless we can get a good picture of the 5vz or 3vze block, in that case, i can compare visually.
I belive the block has the same mounting points because i looked at doing this before. If you use your head off of the 3vz and the block of the 5vz, i think you get 4. something litters of displacemen(sorry, i forget the exact numbers.)
Unfortunatly because of how the engine sits in the camry, the super charger will not fit, it will hit the fire wall.
Sean
If i do a hybrid with the 3vz heads and 5vz block for more displacement i would have to look into an engine management computer, and i am not financially able to tackle that one at this point.
sean, how do you know the s/c will not fit? im pretty sure this has never been done in a camry...
im gonna try this swap. definitely. if the motor mounts dont fit, i will make some that do fit... im gonna find myself a camry with a blown motor to work on, and if that works, then maybe ill put it in my car... or just use the other one.
