I want a Toyota Tacoma. Teach me about them...

I have definitely decided my next vehicle is going to be a Tacoma. I want an Xtracab with a 5spd and a 4x4 model. I noticed the older pickups (I dunno if they were the ones called Tacoma yet) didn't have this. So it has to be a generation with Xtra cab. What generations were there and what were there differences? I love the new ones but I don't really think I could afford that (if I ever wanted to eat food again). Any good sites with a break down of all this stuff?

Tacomas were introduced in '95.

Here are a few good boards to check out, from most to least active regarding the Tacoma:

There are basically two truck lines

The Toyota Truck, and the Toyota Tacoma. The original trucks ran through 94 (or 95), then Toyota switched to the Tacoma trucks.
All trucks can be found with extended cabs, 4X4s, and 5-speed transmissions. The newer trucks have more power with the new engines, but the older trucks were more durable (you will find 1,000,000 mile trucks).

Personally I think the older trucks look better than the Tacomas, but I'm biased because I own a 94.
