Question mystery box

I have a 94 4x4 extra cab p-up, with 22re, and standard 5 speed tranny. behind the glove box, there is a black box, with a small knob on it that has arrows for "rpm increase----rpm decrease".
Is this the computer or what?????/
I hate to sound stupid, but i wouldn't think the pc would have an adjustment knob.

Is that truck carbed? If so, that is probably the idle control.

Never heard of one there though.

Does the truck have AC? If yes that may be the idle speed override for when the Ac is on. On my 93 that is a knurled knob on the side of the EFI. In 94 they may have put it on the cover of the AC evaporator which is located behind and below the glove box on my truck.

It's injected, and has A/C. just swapped out the engine with an 89 model while i do a rebuild on the original. she had a case of indigestion from eating the timing chain guides.
I was thinking a/c when i looked at the box, but then i found the vacum control for a/c idle knock off speed under the hood. thanks for the info, at least now i know i havent screwed up the pc.

Hummmm, funny they would put that AC idle control knob in two different places. Maybe it has something to do with the heater/AC fan which is also back in there. I looked around and didn't see anything like what you're describing on mine. Can you post a picture?

can't get a pic at the moment carpe, have to remove the kick panel on right side. this may be the injector box. it's about 2 inches thick, 5 inches wide, and 6-7 inches tall. the knob is a small knurled knob like you spoke of in earlier post.
I'll get a pic up as soon as i have time to open it back up.
thanks for the input guys

The heater fan on my 84 Tercel SR5 just went South and after removing the right kicker plate and the glove compartment to reach the fan assembly.....I saw the same thing.Checked my manual but found no reference to it.If anybody knows for sure what the function is of this box please post.

Well, I looked in the Haynes Repair Manual I have for my 93 truck and I think it is the ECU (control unit) for the EFI system. The manual shows only that behind the right kick panel. It really doesn't go into any details about it except removal and installation so I have nothing more to add on the function of the knob that started this thread.
