I was driving my pickup, when it just seemed to miss very badly all of a sudden then it stalled. I was able to get it started again and get it to my destination by holding the gas half way down the entire time, when I got to my destination it just died. I changed the plugs and wires, distriuter cap was good, I also tore it down to the timing belt to make sure that it hadn't slipped. I had been getting a check engine light for the throttle position sensor, so I changed that also. I was getting spark and I had changed the coil 9 months ago. I also changed the fuel filter. The open circuit relay inside the cab was also changed. Now it just won't run or barly runs at half throttle. I also have a spare computer and swapped that out to see if this was the cause but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
No I did not adjust it, bu there doesn't seem to be room for adjustment unless it swivels on the screws. Still, if you did not adjust it will it still not start with a new t.p.s. ?
Thanks for the input, it is appreciated.
I cracked open my fuel line and had someone turn the key on, and I got no fuel. However, when I turned the key to start the fuel pump started pumping. Is it possible my ignition switch is bad?
JOE, You might wanna test the compression to see how good the cylinders and internals are. You could have low compression and that could be the reason why it runs crappy if at all.
I will check compression, but the fuel pump does not initiate when the key is put to the on position, it does however start pumping fuel when the key is twisted to the start position but the truck still does not start. This is why I think the ignition may be bad. Any thoughts?
Look at the lil condensor in the distributor, these are a common problem on toyotas at my shop. What kind of truck engine do you have with a timing belt?
If you are sure it's a fuel problem, the first step is probable a failed fuel pressure regulator. The next step is probably a failed fuel pump. I'm assuming you have changed your fuel filter, but that shouldn't give you an "instant" poor running condition. You may also check to see if you have a failed fuel line thats spraying fuel and losing fuel pressure to the engine. I would say to hook up a fuel pressure gauge, but it's impossible to find one for a Toyota.
I had a similar feeling running problem with my 22RE, and it turned out to be one of my cogs had several broken teeth, and caused my timing chain to jump a tooth. That with only 84K on the odometer...
