I have a 1982 pickup.<SR5 4x4> I bought the truck yesterday and it needs a transmission. I was wondering what kind of transmissions would fit on it. 22r carb engine. I wanted to know if a 84-88 22r transmission would fit on it. They look the same but i dont know. i have easier access to a 86 transmission/transfer case but its really hard for me to find a 1983 transmission. NEED HELP BADLY! I want to know if i could place the 86 in it and i want to know the name of the stock tranny for that truck(forexample: w56 transmission. )

I think the 86 is slightly larger in almost every aspect. I have an 81 trans/transfer, but shipping would be killer all the way across the states I'd bet.

do you think the 86 will fit or is the bell housing to big. do you think that if i change the bell housing maybe it will fit?

I don't think the bellhousing comes off.
