Sorry if I came across as a bitter man....maybe it's because I am though....see I don't really care if some rich parents buy their child a vehicle. But I do care about the vehicle they drive... I am here simply because of the fact that I own a toyota......and have owned toyota's for years now... I am here because I have owned Chevy's and VW's and other vehicles and now I drive a Toyota.. I don't drive it because it's faster, bigger or has "all the options I wanted" I drive it because it's better. I drive it because some engineer somewhere decided he didn't just want to make his company a crapload of money, he wanted to build a better truck. A truck he could be proud of, a truck that people would start Forums about.....I am sick of dude's I go moshing with freaking out about my 4cyl....telling me I need to buy a "real" american truck....but I'll never stop enjoying the look on their faces when I pass them cause they're broke down, stuck or out of gas... I like putting 40$ gas in my truck a week instead of 100$.. and hey I go the same places.. but most of all I like the brotherhood of toyota owners.. I never had a dude in a ram wave at me simply because i was driving a ram....and yes I have driven a ram..and no it wasnt that "tough"... hey if my mommy had enough $ to buy me a truck she would have... and your damn right I'd have taken it.... and if it was a ram...even a *gasp* HEMI *choirs of angels singing* I'd have driven it right over to the toyota dealership and traded it for a toyota....
by the way does your ram come with a whale harpoon on the roof as an option or is that a standard feature these days?
oh hey...remember opinions are like a*sholes...everybody has one....
Ive had my fair share of Fords, no trucks but I can imagine their quality is right along with their cars. I had a 5.0 Mustang at the time I bought my 89 MR2 SC. Sure I liked the v8 snap but the supercharged 1.6L 4 banger was more fun to drive, especially in the twisties, and beats most cars off the line. It gets a lot better gas mileage than that v8 as well. It doesnt have the top end on the highway but that could be fixed with a twincharged kit, or maybe a 3sgte swap. Anyhow.. Im committed to Toyota now because they are committed to giving their customers a quality vehicle. If I ever bought another "American" car again, it would be another 60's era Mustang. None of the "American" cars today are 100% American, but they are still designed and engineered by Americans who still cannot figure out what the Japanese figured out years ago... quality. Of course that Mustang that I would will be only a cruising mobile just because I wouldnt feel like having to work on it constantly to use it as a daily or whatever. Fix Or Repair Daily is pretty close to reality.
Toyotas may not have the most hp or torque, but theres ways around that. Either a SC kit or go with a Tundra with the v8. Im still waiting to see if Toyota will ever introduce a dually Tundra. That would be a ultimate tow, strap on that v8 with a supercharger and youd have plenty of power to do anything, while still getting better gas mileage with better quality than any "American" truck Ive looked at. If I was given just about any car not made by Toyota, I would trade it in for a Toyota. Even if I had Bill Gates money Id be driving something powered by Toyota, which does include Lexus.. I might have a few other toys but my main primary, dependable ride would be Toyota. With 180k miles on my MR2, with orig clutch, I couldnt be any happier. If the Tacoma treats me just as good.. I'll be happier than a pig in s***.
My dad likes his Dodge. About the only problem he had with it was the front bumper faded and started to peel. The dealer wanted him to drop the truck off for a day or 2 so they could pull the bumper off and respray it. He told them to shove it and he did it himself.. other than that hes happy with it.
Yeah, the xrunner looks pretty nice. I like Toyota suv's, and trucks, minus the 4x2's. I have no need for a street truck, aka mini/slammed truck. I have my MR2 that will do donuts around trucks, and its more fun to drive than any truck would ever imagine being on the street. Unfortunately Toyota doesnt really have any new sports cars I would consider. The Matrix would almost have it if they offered the hi-po engine with the awd. Doesnt make sense to stick with a lower performing engine with the hp gobbling awd system. Id buy a WRX over the Matrix for this reason.
Its good you have a need for the full sized Dodge. Most people I have seen driving around the oversized trucks never use it for its design. They just cause more of a road hazard because they cant handle the big rig and suck up more gas for the rest of to breath in. Suburban to drop off your kid at the soccer game.. only if you have 8 other kids in the back with all the soccer equipment to tote. Another pathetic thing is all the H2's I see driving around my neighborhood. 99% of them will never see a dirt road let alone what a Hummer was designed for. The H2 for the most part is nothing more then a pretty boys yuppy drive. Let me sit behind the wheel and I'll show them what they can do... well, at least the H1's.. they are a blast to drive but not worth the extra $ or gas consumption. More of a work horse than anything.
jesuitchristie, so some domestic guy or two had talked a little smack about you and your Toyota? So?... just get over it man. Why try to throw some trash on an innocent young TN member who just happened to get a domestic truck for a present? He had nothing to do with when your feelings got hurt. Go after the people who made the remarks instead for Christ's sake.
Anyways, Slash, it's great to hear of your present. I would've been happy too if I was in your shoes. It's not a Toyota as you had hoped but it'll do just fine. Man, you got cool parents. Have fun with that truck and forget them hating campers out there.

Ok apparently I have to get a life.... first I have been dissed by hardcore "american" owners and I am "over it" I merely used the experience as an example of how a lot of people seem to think bigger is better, and that this is not always the case..and as for the rednecks coming down on poor old me... I live in Calgary, AB.. I am a fu*king redneck...And the guys dissing me are usually my buddies....who are also rednecks (I try not to go off roadingwith a bunch of dudes I hate and can't trust to pull me out if the shit hits the fan) I am not coming down on slash because of this experience... which I must say... I am probably not the first or last off road/toyota enthusiast this has happened to... secondly the harpoon thing was a joke... so you need to relax slash. (the joke was referring to the sheer enormity of your apparently oh so fashionable with the kids ram)... also a company doesn't market it's cars to kids who usually don't have enough $$$ to buy them, but I digress and disagree...... I think the toyota's do appeal to a younger market I mean 4runners of today are a sort of soccermom wagon but the tacoma is definately geared toward a younger crowd and everytime I go snowboarding or skateboarding there is always a bunch of toyota's at the park.... Sorry I came off as trashing you....I am merely trash talking your truck, don't take it so personal... I like toyota's this is a toyota forum...weird hey..
