Tacoma step tubes

Just bought a new Tacoma PreRunner. Very nice truck. I want to get step tubes. Two inquiries:

1) How do you like the tube steps by Steel Horse that Toyota sells? Anyone found something better?

2) The advertised instructions for the Steel Horse steps say they just bolt on to the frame. They say it is an “easy” installation. Can anyone share their experience installing Toyota/Steel Horse step tubes?

What kind of warranty do they have on the finish? Westin, I think has a 5 year warranty on the chrome, and lifetime on the stainless.

I got a pair of the Smittybilt nerf bars when I got my '99. My old man and I installed them in under an hour.

You want to be careful when they say that they are bolt on. I went for the cheaper wild cat flash step tubes, and what a pain!!!!!!!!!!! The ad said they were bolt on, but I ended up having to drill through my frame. I think if you spend money on a decent set you won't have any problems. They do look great on the truck....

Westin is the way to go

My suggestion is go with Westin. I just picked up a set for my 96 Taco and put them on by myself in under 45 min. I sold my other bars to a fellow Taco owner who had a 04 and they bolted right up. Oh and they look sweet.

Yeah, they look pretty sick on an 05 Silver D-Cab..saw one on the streets. I have the same truck, but with the factory running boards. I do want those DeeZee ones though.

On that website, YES, the tubes are inexpensive, BUT shipping is like $99 bucks.

For ease of entry, get the running boards...for looks, go for the tube steps.
